Details - Hartwell

Hartwell was converted from a labourer's cottage into a farmhouse in around 1850, close to the village of Sydenham Damerel, near Tavistock in West Devon.

We have a large well equipped kitchen containing a long farmhouse table comfortably seating 10-12 people, plus a traditional Rayburn on which to cook (but there’s also a conventional electric cooker if you'd prefer!)  Each of the two living rooms has a cosy wood burner to top up the partial central heating. The house has modern facilities (including WiFi, bluetooth speakers, 42” TV, free-sat, Netflix and blu-ray player) but retains its traditional feel including antique and older style furniture, 1920s piano, Inglenook fireplace, original slate flagstones and old wooden floors.

Ten people can comfortably be accommodated in the five bedrooms, all with a view of the large garden or surrounding countryside. They consist of:
Bedroom 1 - (Double) Kingsize four-poster bed
Bedroom 2 - (Double) Kingsize double traditional metal bed
Bedroom 3 - (Twin) 2 single beds (which can become a large double if requested)
Bedroom 4 - (Twin) 2 single beds
Bedroom 5 - (Double) Kingsize double bed
We also have a travel cot for infants, or an extra put-you-up mattress for another person if required.

There is a roll-top bath plus a shower upstairs, and a shower room downstairs, each with WC.

For bookings between May and October you will have exclusive use of our gorgeous 10x5m heated outdoor swimming pool, which is in a fenced off area of the garden.

The large attractive acre-and-half garden has different zones (enclosed garden, patio, field, small apiary, pond, pool, summerhouse) and is great to explore or to play badminton or perhaps a communal game of cricket, football or rounders. There's a trampoline at the top of the garden, table tennis in the garage, or table football in the pool house. Alternatively you could simply relax in the hammock next to the fish pond, or pop into the pool for a swim, or just sit and enjoy the view from the summerhouse.

The garden is frequently visited by rabbits, owls, woodpeckers and occasionally badgers and deer. Neighbouring fields play host to a mixture of horses, sheep and cattle. We have a couple of beehives on-site in a fenced off apiary, set well away from the house.  Footpaths lead in various directions from the house making it easy to explore the local countryside.

The corner shop is 2 miles away, while the attractive market town of Tavistock is just 5 miles to the east. And if you fancy a pint or a lovely meal out, there’s a 15th Century local pub 15 minutes walk down the road.

We're just 10 minutes drive from the edge of Dartmoor and 5 minutes from Cornwall. The gorgeous RHS Partner gardens of Endsleigh House are less than 10 minutes away.  And we're equidistant from the North and South Devon/Cornwall coasts - just 45 minutes in either direction.
